Urban Outfitters: For cool and casual summer flats

About a year ago, a friend invited me to spend the day in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s kind of like going to Soho 20 years ago: a mix of scruff and style, old and revamped buildings, and a smattering of creative stores, with no sign or Prada or Chanel…YET.

We strolled into a store that was laid out in very attractive vignettes, which I think is a great way of showcasing merchandise. I gravitated to the shoes; so what else is new, and ended up buying a really cool pair of black patent leather men’s style lace-ups; which I wore a lot last winter with slim pants.

As I went to pay for these beauties, I was very surprised to learn that I was at URBAN OUTFITTERS. Nothing against this store, but this particular location was much more attractive than Manhattan locations I have visited. It just goes to show you that presentation makes all the difference, in every aspect of life, as a matter of fact.

As much as we all love a pretty high heel, sometimes the idea of wearing heels is just too painful, or simply inappropriate for the activity at hand. So I thought I would focus just on my favorite summer flats from URBAN OUTFITTERS.

UNIQLO for fabulous goodies

UNIQLO is one of those stores where you stop in to simply browse, and you invariably come out with fabulous items you never knew you needed (story of my life). But that’s because everything is so attractive, useful and well priced. Who can resist that?

Uniqlo linen shirts

These linen shirts are fabulous and come in solids, dots and stripes in a plethora of colors $34.90

uniqlo quilted jacket 59.90

The lightest, fitted down jacket, for these chilly spring days. It comes in an array of fun colors, $59.90

Uniqlo half shorts 12.90

I am in love with this body shaper: It’s perfect for a smooth look, especially with flimsy summer dresses. And because the fabric is light, you don’t feel encased like a lot of body shapers make you feel:) And, I especially love the $12.90 price tag. How refreshing is that?

UNIQLO makes me happy!

Hampton Jitney Value Pack Sale

Hampton JItneyHampton Jitney Value Pack

This Christmas I am also trying to come up with gifts that are useful and practical vs glamorous and impractical.  Don’t get me wrong, I love glamorous and impractical gifts, but since we all have gift recipients that are all about the usefulness factor, this one’s for them.

For those that head out to the Hamptons during the summer and the Jitney is their mode of transportation, Hampton Jitney Value Packs are now on sale, bringing down your per trip cost significantly!

So as the recipient of your gift heads to the Hamptons next summer, on a hot and traffic filled evening, they will be most greatful for all those free rides!

Escape the heat: Sales are here

Since it’s been boiling hot this past week, I’ve happily spent some time in the cool confines of a few clothing stores. It’s actually the perfect timing as there are fabulous sales taking place.

I saw lots of great pieces, whether for a dressy occasion, a day at the beach, or a work meeting. I especially loved pieces from Ralph Lauren, Maje, REISS, DVF, J. Crew, and a few others shown here.

Click on each picture to go directly to its site and get a better view.

Deal Alert: Chloe and Lanvin Pumps

As we all know, stores are clearing out the last of their winter merchandise to make room for fabulous spring looks.

So now is the time to stop by your favorite store and search for those pieces that you fell in love with last fall, but had the discipline to walk away from. I admire that!

My Pick of the Week goes to these gorgeous pumps by Chloe and Lanvin, and sold at BERGDORF’s, that I featured last year. I am happy to report that they are now on SALE!

Both are a variation on the same theme: the classic pump revisited to give it a modern and sleek look. I LOVE that they are versatile and can be worn with your favorite pant, dress or skirt, and give any outfit a cool and chic edge, without looking trendy or gimmicky.

Post Christmas Shopping Deals

Christmas has come and gone in a flash! Do you feel like you’ve been driving very fast and your car has come to a screeching halt leaving you a bit shaky? Or is it just me?

I am slowly recuperating from all that cooking, gift wrapping and running around and, I am happy to report, enjoying my free time. Between catching up on movies and museum exhibits, and putting my Starbucks gift card to good use, life is good!

I know shopping may not be at the top of your list, it’s not on mine. But, now that the pressure is off, you may actually enjoy it. And, if you’ve been disciplined and have held back from shopping for yourself, this is a great time to hit your favorite stores. The savings are huge!  I stopped by Bloomingdale’s yesterday and pieces already marked down where an additional 50% off. For example, a sporty $90 Ralph Lauren top was now $30. How great is that!!

Another store that I love to check out at this time is Bergdorf’s. First, it’s such a civilized store, so shopping here is a pleasure.  And you’ll be sure to come across that ridiculously expensive dress you dreamed about, now on sale.

If the idea of stepping into a store is not appealing, just click on the above links to check out the sites from the comfort of your home.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting some pretty pieces for your New Year’s Celebration.  With these amazing sales, you will have lots to chose from.

Further markdowns on previous featured posts

If you didn’t get to shop some of my past posts, here are a few pretty items that have been marked down further.

I took the plunge and bought the burgundy wrap dress from Hybrid. I’ll keep you posted on look and fit!

Enjoy!
