HAPPY NEW YEAR: What’s your “word” for 2018?

2017 has come and gone and I’m back with the annual excercise of picking “One word that will change your life.” The idea comes from a book with the same title about how big New Year’s goals and resolutions are rarely kept. It suggests that instead we pick one word that becomes our philosophy of life for the year; that serves as our guide for the year. I love this as it bundles all our New Year’s resolutions into one word. We can apply that word to many aspects of our lives, depending on our mood.

Every year, when I take on this excercise, I have found that my word for the year comes with very little thought.  It just seems to be the first word that comes to mind, and it has always felt right. So don’t overthink your word.  What usually comes to mind immediately is most likely your word.

My word for 2018 is EXPAND. When I started my business of importing home decor and accessories from Colombia, I focused on the “Dream” of doing so, thus my word for 2016.  In 2017 I needed to “Hope” for the best in this endeavor.  Now I must “Expand” my business for it to grow. For that I need to Expand mind: to ideas, people, possibilites and to learning about running a successful business. The only thing that I don’t plan to Expand is my waistline!

Wish me luck as I Expand my mind and let ideas flow.

What’s your word for 2018?
